THE Welsh Mountain Pony will be a star

performer on what is a comprehensive

horse program at the Newcastle Show.

The program is being hailed as a welcome

return to normality after the disruption

caused by the equine influenza

outbreak.

Breed classes at the show will

include Australian National Saddle

Horses, Arabians, Australian ponies,

Australian stock horses, buckskins,

Clydesdales, harness horses,

miniature horses, miniature ponies,

Palominos, pintos, Shetlands and

hacks.

The Welsh Mountain Pony has been

bred for generations in the wild regions of

Wales.

It is a horse that boasts a sound

constitution and strong limbs.

That is combined with agility,

intelligence and a kind temperament.

The appearance of the Welsh

Mountain Pony in Australia came soon

after the arrival of the first settlers.

Since those days there has been the

regular importation of good stock.

It is a horse well recognised for its

show qualities.

Several sections on the Newcastle

show horse schedule have been set

aside for the Welsh or part bred Welsh.

There will be no Showjumping classes

at the 2008 show.
